In the past, China's printing industry has been developing extensively, and domestic enterprises mainly use landfill as the treatment method for adhesive waste. Landfill not only occupies a large amount of land area, but also the leakage of garbage can pollute groundwater resources for a long time. So, this method not only fails to achieve the resource utilization of garbage, but also has the potential to cause great harm, which will bring endless consequences to future generations. Currently, many developed countries explicitly prohibit landfill waste.

Throughout the entire lifecycle of self-adhesive materials, the waste generated mainly includes self-adhesive backing paper, adhesive surface materials after die cutting and waste disposal, adhesive surface materials affixed to end products, and self-adhesive waste materials.

At present, there are two major sources of adhesive waste: firstly, label material manufacturers and label printing factories; One is the labeling line for brand factories or bottling factories; The waste generated by the two is not the same. The main waste generated by the label printing factory includes die-cutting waste and trimming waste. Among them, the components of die-cutting waste are mixed, and due to the presence of glue and ink, the vast majority need to be landfilled and incinerated. The composition of the trimming waste is the same as that of the label release substrate, which has high utilization value. However, the printing factory produces less waste and is not convenient for centralized transportation.

The main waste generated from labeling lines in brand factories or bottling factories is label release substrates, which are also made of PET film and grazin paper. This part of waste has a large quantity and high utilization value, and currently most of it will be recycled and reused. For example, PET film degradation treatment can be used to produce regenerated PET fiber materials; Grazin paper can be downgraded to other types of paper, such as corrugated paper.
